In 1860, Edouard Heuer establishes its company called at that time Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG in St-Imier, Switzerland. Later on, in 1867 the company moves to Biel, Switzerland. The production of Heuer first chronographs starts in 1882. A short time after that Heuer receives its first patent for a timer mechanism.
