The choice of bronze for the case pays homage to the well-known ship, HMS Beagle, that carried Charles Darwin on his expedition to the Galapagos Islands.
In those days, bronze – which is non-corrosive – was used for portholes, fittings and nautical instruments.
Depending on the use to which it is put, bronze develops a patina in the course of time and darkens in colour, giving the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Expedition Charles Darwin” its own unmistakable character.
The bronze tone recurs in the luminescent material on the hands, indices and quarter-hour scale on the internal rotating bezel.
This IWC Aquatimer Automatic Chronograph 44m comes Equipped with the IWC-manufactured 89365 movement, rubber-coated push-buttons, the SafeDive system and water-resistance to 30 bar, this special edition is ideal for expeditions in this day and age both on land and underwater.
The engraving on the back is an expressive portrait of Darwin, whose revolutionary theory of evolution changed our way of thinking for ever.

IWC SAFEDIVE SYSTEM: Uni-Directional Rotating Bezel:
Rotating the external bezel ring counter-clockwise engage the inner bezel. But, rotating the external bezel ring clockwise do not affect the inner bezel. So, it prevents the risk of extending the period of time the diver remains under the water.
This is done via the Sliding Clutch System, which allows the external bezel to interact with the internal bezel ring – all this time maintaining the water resistance integrity of the watch.
The Sliding Clutch System comes fitted with a polished protective cover located on the case edge at 9 o’clock position.
